Phineas Powers

I began as a hip-hop producer and songwriter/artist with a friend. Years later during our first professionally recorded and produced studio album recording sessions I discovered Sinatra and the associated songbook. Since then I have been learning classics and standards while developing my own style of delivery. While I feel comfortable and confident writing original songs I have discovered that my true love is singing the songs of the likes of Rube Blume, Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, and Jimmy Van Huessen to name a few. My intent and goal is to put a small jazz band together to record and release songs with music videos while performing in local spots around town hip to the vibe such as Rudy's and Sinatra Bar & Lounge. I have been releasing new music videos of original songs monthly for about the past 2 years, continuously. Moving forward I would like to focus on bringing the American Songbook back to the forefront of pop culture. While independent songwriting is needed and great, I feel like language degradation and profitability have really polluted and homogenized the musical offerings for listening, particularly in the mainstream. I'd like to assemble a group of musicians with similar mindset and give the Nashville Jazz scene a boost that will carry out into the rest of the world.
